On November 8th, 2Tone Records/Chrysalis Catalogue will launch a 40th Anniversary Half-Speed Mastered Edition of The Special AKA's 'In The Studio' album. This release has been approved by the band's founder and main songwriter Jerry Dammers. Formed in Coventry in the mid - 1970s, The Specials, an idea of Jerry Dammers, combined a diverse group of people to create a multi - racial band that blended punk energy with Jamaican ska. The band became famous with the 2Tone movement, having two No. 1 singles. After some members left, the remaining ones reverted to The Special AKA and worked on 'In the Studio'. Released in 1984, this album is a bold mix of music with a strong conscience. It made it to the Top 40 and is a unique work with lounge, soul, reggae, jazz, and Arabic rhythms. It features two classic singles: 'Free Nelson Mandela' and 'What I Like Most About You Is Your Girlfriend'. Over time, it has gained the status of a lost classic. Like previous 40th Anniversary vinyl editions, this one is newly remastered and half - speed cut by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios, London.
