Description
Formed in 1976, by 1990, The Fall had experienced 18 line - up changes, releasing 14 albums and 24 singles. Leader and vocalist Mark Edward Smith was the only constant, with a strong work ethic, creating amazingly obscure music and railing against mediocrity. When The Fall signed to Fontana, guitarist Martin Bramah returned, replacing Smith's ex - wife Brix. Their three Fontana albums, Extricate, Shift - Work, and Code: Selfish, were impressively consistent. After dismissing Martin Bramah and keyboard player Marcia Schofield, The Fall worked as a four - piece for the first time. Shift - Work, released in April 1991, is a commercial high point. It features tracks like Idiot Joy Showland, a rant against Madchester bands, The War Against Intelligence, and the lovely Edinburgh Man. This re - issue exactly replicates the 1991 Fontana Records UK release, pressed on high - quality 180g vinyl. Tracks include So What About It, Idiot Joy Showland, and more.
