Description
Kiss Each Other Clean is the fourth full - length album by Iron & Wine, originally released in 2011. It came three years after The Shepherd’s Dog, his biggest - selling record up to that point. Unlike his first two sparse and intimate solo albums, Kiss Each Other Clean, like The Shepherd’s Dog, features rich textures, poly - rhythmic sounds, and an 'more is more' approach. Sam Beam's songwriting and singing are at the heart of the album. His hushed tone and talent for melody draw you in, even as he experiments in the style of Waits. The main recording was done at home in Dripping Springs, Texas, and then Beam moved to Chicago to work with Brian Deck. A group of talented musicians helped Beam shape the album's sound. Kiss Each Other Clean combines soft rock smoothness, dub reggae textures, and new instruments. Songs like 'Monkeys Uptown' with vintage synths, 'Big Burned Hand' with Stevie Wonder - like funk, and 'Walking Far From Home' add a cheesy yet welcome touch to the organic arrangements. 'Tree by the River' became the band's biggest radio single. It was an adventurous time for Iron & Wine, defying easy categorization. Tracks include 'Walking Far From Home', 'Me and Lazarus', 'Tree By the River' on Side A, and 'Godless Brother in Love', 'Big Burned Hand', 'Glad Man Singing' on Side B.
